It was orignally done to mask the sound of the ball contacting the bat, so the opponent would find it harder to guess the amount of spin on the ball.

slamming your foot when you serve, serves no purpose..it actually give the opponent a signal making it easier to estimate the timing of the serve

well ya if u see his foot work or any chinese players footwork their like lightning from one side to of the net to the other side he travels round the hole part of the table on his side in a split second
