YOKO ONO-"APPROXIMATELY INFINITE UNIVERSE" (1972)

Ukulele Videos

Sister Morphine meets Pink Floyd! The title track of Yoko's 1971 masterpiece, this song is a beautiful ache. Turning the expansive optimism of John's "Across the Universe" inward, she describes a young woman's internal war with addiction and loneliness. Yoko writes amazing lyrics. They are clean and clear, almost haiku in their ablity to nail the essence. She has few rivals in Rock for writing simple lines that are so complex and provacative. Supporting her are the New Yok band, Elephant's Memory. The soaring guitar lines, which are reminescent of David Gilmour's arcing ache, are the work of Wayne Gabriel. While John was brilliant at skronky punk and grungy blues chords, Gabriel brought a sympathetic beauty to the varied styles on this album that expanded the pallette. Highly overlooked. This double album is her "Blonde On Blonde" or "White Album". It has an amazing variety of pop styles and poignant lyrics, and is well worth the purchase! Yoko's early 70 stuff APPROXIMATELY INFINITE UNIVERSE and FEELING THE SPACE are better albums and stand the test of time better that anything the Beatles ever did. They rock with originality - also WALKING ON THIN great.

"Two bottles of lonliness, patching the holes in her dreams" is one of my favorite lines from any song, ever.

if this music doesn't move you and all you can think is hateful thoughts about Yoko, you have no soul

APU is Yoko's peak and best work as far as I'm concerned. Confrontational lyrics backed by solid music.

I bought this album (vinyl) in the 70's from a used record store for $1.00! I was totally blown away and instantly became a dedicated Yoko fan. I am so glad others are finally being exposed to her talents. Love, Peace, and Power to all! VOTE!!!

Am I still on YouTube? There's not a single ignorant and negative comment in here (as of this posting)! Applause for all! Not to mention it's a Yoko Ono video, and she's so demonized, which means double applause! Yoko rocks so hard. It's so cool to know she CAN sing, she just sometimes CHOOSES to sound...unconventional, because she's crazy/awesome.
