You need a lil rawness, that's why Mary connects so well with people, her vocals were so raw in the beginning, it was so human and real. Those are qualities that makes great singers. Emotion, being able to connect with your audience. Live bands are where it's at. Alica has an awesome band and Bey's Suga Mama is of the scale. They are some bad chicks. I give Bey credit for stepping her game up and putting together this slammin band! Now she needs to really use them & record her next album w/them.

Hell yeah! Well let's take it back for real. The Ohio Players, The Bar Kays, Sly and The Family Stone, Brick, Chic Rufus and (my beloved) Chaka Khan, The Commodores, The Isley Brothers I mean the list goes on and on. Damn, What happened. Hell all the new artists do is sample the old artists. I mean don't get me wrong. I love change it's neccessary, but change for the better. And, you are so right about music being so over produced. To me, it takes away the edge of the music,

Oh yes, and even further with Cameo. Can you imagine if they were new artists coming out today how they would wipe the floor most of the new artist of today? LOL.
FemaleVocalLover1975 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Yep, it would. I know this is getting off a tangent but it fits in. Think of popular Virtual Reality is, it is seems so real. That is what's missing. A lot of music is so overproduced, you can tell. Don't mention pro-tunes. LOL. Wow, that alone is affecting music. I don't mean to knock a lot of today's music but it is what it is.

You know that's true. There are no singing groups, no Boys to Men, Jodeci. I mean we can't count Pretty Ricky, LOL! Yes take it back to Prince and The Revolution, The Time, The Deale. No, the record labels don't care, they'll be more than content to have Beyonce still dancing around in a leotard slapping her ass at the age of 35. Not taking into consideration that she'll be in another place in her creative life and will be a completely different artist. They just want what sells.

Yeah Tiffany and Paris have skills. I hope they find real success. You know the game is so superficial, it's hard to be a real artist these days.

I agree. Don't get me wrong I love Hip Hop, grew up with it, it's my generation as well. I think sampling did create a huge problem and nothing is orginal anymore. I mean hell look at the rappers, they talk about the shit over and over it's so simple now nothing fresh. The beats are recycled. That's one of the reason's I love Lupe Friasco, he is a breathe of fresh air. I'm telling you live music will change the game. You would have so much more creative fresh music.

I know who Cheryl Lynn is. She's the business. I agree with you, I think good to great vocalist all sound better behind live instruments. I mean, what you say make sense and you would think that labels would see this and encourage it. Yeah, right. LOL.
FemaleVocalLover1975 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
As long that they can make money somehow someway.
FemaleVocalLover1975 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
But not even just that, think about the fact that there are not much singing groups. That helps in terms of culvating a good ear which helps with singing with instruments. I know I am getting off a tangent but the thing is music is where it is now and then the labels wonder music is not selling for the most part. All I know is when I hear Prince's Dove Cry, you tell that they actually perform it rather than layered vocals and stuff of that nature. But record labels don't care....
