Tuareg's Return Home - Mali

Ukulele Videos

May 1997 A report on the plight of the nomadic Tuareg people of the Sahara. For centuries the deserts of northern Mali have sustained the Tuareg; herdsmen known as the 'blue people' of the Sahara. But, in the 1990s the combination of droughts and civil war forced most to abandon their herds and flee to refugee camps in Mauritania. Now Moussa Ag Mohammed is returning to his land; but the loss of his herds, and the remorseless advance of the desert, means his ancient lifestyle is doomed. Mohammet Ali, whose lineage can be traced back twelve hundred years, digs with pitiful tools to maintain an ever sinking well against the dusty backdrop of the desert plains. He refused to fight or flee during the war, sticking by his philosophy 'If it is hot where you are, it's even hotter somewhere else'. Orphaned Faty and her brother tend their precious market garden on a patch of sand outside the village; every last drop of water must be pumped by hand. The Tuareg are still pessimistic that their way of life will die out as their children migrate to the towns for an 'easier' lifestyle

why is it that in every african country it is always the northerners who tends to descriminate and always are uncompromisable. these northers are causing too much problems, even in a peaceful country like ghana, the northern people are fighting and killing each other. for lords sake, why don't these people learn to go to school and learn some basic ethics and morality.

Weren't the Tuaregs slave-owners who preyed on villages south of the Sahara, especially in Mali and Niger? Maybe that's the reason for some of the discrimination that is directed towards the Tuaregs by the Negroid peoples who now run the government. At least that's the repeated argument I've read in varous books.

put a few dead trees on the moon and you'd get a pretty convincing Mali... Why do we force people to live in such environments?

how about rather than spending money on weapons and bombs, we spend billions trying to push back desertification.

Actually, Tuareg are black. Some of them are light and others are black. It depends. They identify a lot more with other blacks like Fulani then they do with someone from France. They dont view themselves as white like white in Europe and USA

And yet Tuaregs aren't white, they're black.
