when two culture or three for that matter as we have sitting on this stage, merge, how is it ever a bad thing?....A: these people are all singing thier own voice through each of the instruments and thier voices are all heard..how often is the voice of the people heard? B: when cultures colide, new ideas, new ideals, and new discoveries are made: both spiritually, internally, and technologicially--in this case the sharing of instrumentation!..people this is a choir of angels..sit back and rejoice

I tend to go both ways on it...pretty much all Balkan music is a result of cultural fusion (though it happened much more slowly, and in a natural way). Doing this purposely is a bit like cooking, having a sense of what ingredients will work, which will not. More often than not it ends up being just a mess. This is pleasant enough to listen to. How far will it go, who knows? I like it better than the Cretan backed up with synthesizer, guitar and "cowboy bass" that seems to be standard today...:P
