It's because American music is mainstream, and heavily promoted.Tinariwen are an amazing band, I was fortunate enough to see them live a few months ago when they toured the UK. The fact is most English/europeans/ americans, won't listen to music they don't understand. But on a bright side it keeps the music purer beacuae as a band they don't become a money spinning machine for a record company.

What annoys me is how an american guitarist can come up with a riff thats kinda cutting edge and be considered "one of the greatest". Yet poor old ibrahim here invents a whole new style (like hendrix) and gets f*ck all!

you should watch the documentary or check them out- these guys are revolutionary dudes!!! They are not about the slavery, exact opposite.
