Are you an old man? Or do you just not realize that JD, smiths, banshees - none of that was ever as mainstream as the new shit you mentioned. If you want good stuff, you always have to look underneath the mainstream - cut copy, mgmt, fleet foxes, justice, etc.
I hate the mainstream as much as you, but you can't let getting old jade you into thinking that just because you can't turn on top 40 radio and be blown away, it means that music is dead.
