okay put it this way..
Lets say you were in charge of the operation. Your goal was to make a historic breakthrough in spacetravel. The first ever living creature in space (as far as we know).
The government you served under had found a 27 year old woman and a 6 year old dog, one of them had to go into space, and you knew they wouldn't survive it. Which would you choose? Honestly?

you're an ass who doesn't know his history.
How would you feel if I deemed you worthless enough (which I do) to send into orbit just to die
If I had the choice of choosing between a dog being shot and you.. well you figure out what I would choose
Man's fucking best friend, it just goes to show how most people treat their best friends

OMG...I didn't know there was a video for this song. The story of Laika is horrible. I can't stand to think about it. No, there was no good end for her. Poor baby. I hope her last moments were not painful.

Uhm, no, Laika died in a very uncomfortable fashion and in a far less humane way then you describe.
"Laika died a few hours after launch from stress and overheating, probably due to a malfunction in the thermal control system. The true cause of her death was not made public until decades after the flight."
Sputnik was never meant to re-enter orbit either. Supposedly they had intent on giving her a poisoned batch of food. Not humane either; doubt you'd want your insides on fire. :D
