Have you seen the art of Yoshitaka Amano? The characters are far from realistic, more like something you would see in a fairytale. It's not the lack of technology, but how would you make up a fantasy, a world of magic and wonders, with realistic looking characters? I believe that each concept have their own kind of world to rule in, and that these more human look alike belong in.. *ahem* war games and such things. :P PS. Shun on you for saying bad Disney cartoon. No such thing exists! XD

the reason why games previous to FFVIII didn't have realistic looking characters is because they lacked the technology. The artwork of the cast of VI portrayed them as realistic looking, it was just the avatars that were cartoonish. even in FFVII they were more anime-style than kiddy looking like Zidane. Even chars like Quina and Steiner looked like something you'd see in a bad Disney cartoon. it's hard to look deeper into something that lacked depth.

I think Vivi's development during the story was much like Terra. Unsecure of their power, unknown of their origin, but at the end decides to fight for what they believe in. It's true that FF7 does sound more serious, but in the end it's all the same: Save the world. As for 8.. They are more realistic, but that's not the basic formula of a Final Fantasy game, which is why I'm so glad FF9 decided to go back to what made the first games such classics. I think you need to take a deeper look to

actually it lacked quite a bit of the good parts of the previous games. It lacked a good, developed cast like 6, the depth of story like 7, and realistic & attractive characters like 8. Even the music was forgettable. There were only maybe two scenes in the game that stood out, if at all. It was worth playing, but not worth remembering.

WELL SAID! I love this game! The ending is kinda cliche but its still a great ending and fits the game PERFECTLY! FF9=Masterpiece! :)
