i was lucky enough to see lots of the loft jazz concerts in chicago in the '70's when the AACM was such a vibrant presence there. Jerome Cooper with the Revolutionary Ensemble (with Sirone and Leroy Jenkins) and Roscoe Mitchell with The Art Ensemble -awesome talent. many of the musicians later relocated to New York, but in those days Chicago hosted some of the best free jazz players on the planet!

Roscoe Mitchell will always be one of the best Avant-Garde masters on this earth. He inspired me the play the soprano sax by his amazing tone. i sure wish i could circular breath like him.
