Awesome video! I did it a year ago great experience but only for people who are very very comfortable on bikes at high speeds and curves. A few people jumped in the van after the first curve. IT's amazing though!!!

Awesome video! Brings back great memories of me riding down this great volcano a couple of weeks ago! Mahalo and aloha!

From Kaanapali resort area to the start of the drive up Haleakala I'd say you have a good 45min to 1 hour drive before you start driving up... then if I remember right by car its probably another hour+ to the top.. I ride up the thing so I can't tell you car time. You are on a paved smooth road all the way down... nothing goes off road. There is a bed and breakfast at about 2500-3000 feet if I remember correctly.

Our family is going at Christmas, 2007 for our first visit. Could a mom of 53 with a bum knee make it downhill? Which Bike Co. is best and I heard there was a little breakfast place about half way down. Is that true? Would that be an option if we went the first morning time? How far a drive is the summit from Kaanapoli Beach area? Some of these YouTube videos look rough, are there options for off road trails or real roads all the way down? Thanks for any info.

its a long steady grind... there are sections which are alot easier than others.. the worst part is the switchbacks which pitch up hard on the inside line...

it doesn't seem that steep, how fast were you going
