And no. I do not have my priorities wrong. I go to my school for the sole purpose of advancing my knowledge and pursuing a career in medicine. I joined my band because I love music and because the marching band experience is truly something to behold. I love my school. I love my band. I respect true musicianship and execution. The show was entertaining. I will give you that. But isn't band about more than that? Cal is a great place, no lie. But I said no for a reason.

Again, I approve your passion for what you call 'REAL band', and it's always nice to see the Solid Gold Sound laying down a solid gold standard for college bands everywhere. But, in all honesty--I think you've got your priorities wrong. Berkeley, UCLA, and the rest aren't internationally respected universities because of their marching bands or sports programs. Look at the Ivies--all of them have scatter bands.

As a Bruin and an ex-marching band member, your band snobbery is infuriating. Also, is a college band dedicated to being the knife's edge of musicianship or providing entertainment of thousands of fans drunk on alcohol and/or endorphins? Cal's lack of skill and general inferiority notwithstanding, you're making a mountain out of a molehill. As for the other commentators, let the unwashed (unmusical) proletariat have their fun. It was an interesting concept.

Well...as far as concept goes, I guess this was FINE. But Cal Band once again accomplishes its usual feat of making simple drill look plain FILTHY, and making so-so music sound DISGUSTING. Articulation? "Not Together" doesn't even begin to describe. Tone Quality? My high school band did better. Intonation? Listen to ANY of the isolated trumpet sounds. DEATH in musical form. How about BASICS? Maybe fewer WRONG NOTES? wow. BASIC BASIC BASIC! Entertaining for the Average Joe. Absolutely atrocious.
