You want to talk about dated - go see a typical "Monty Python" episode. And some of their stuff was even more sexist than what Mr. Hill was accused of. Benny, unlike the Pythons, did not rely so much on "topical" humor that lost its relevancy the moment it first aired. Besides, much of the anti-Hill animus has been directed by the lesbian feminists and the radical homosexuals - and both groups have gained further control over the media since 1989.

But your nit picking. One sketch out of hundreds. Benny Hill has made some sketches that are truly timeless & sometimes quite poignient & sad. This sexist crap is blown all out of proportion. I mean compared to comedy these days Benny Hill is positivly PC. And ive always believed if you cant joke about one thing you cant joke about anything.

what does new and mep consider funny? benny hill was a comic genius. he was a throwback to the past and years ahead of his time in tandem. i dont know of any person present or past who was funner than the great benny hill. RIP benny.

My problem with this is that it seems terribly dated and unfunny, while classic stuff - comedy, music, etc. - never dates. And, of course, it's so utterly sexist that you're supposed to simply accept that as a fact and to agree that it must be funny regardless. The best comedy has a broad, all-round appeal and endures. This doesn't. It's like hearing a one-liner over and over again (the "Carry Ons" are the same). Fortunately, we live in different times now.
